A 2 year study regarding Dental Sealants was recently completed. Dental sealants are one of the most effective tools dentists have to help prevent cavities in the grooves of the back teeth. This is true for baby molars and permanent premolars and molars.
In a 2-3 year time period, sealants can prevent 70% of tooth decay and 80% in a 7 year time frame. The other positive aspect of dental sealants is there are no known adverse effects. Though sealants do not prevent cavities between the teeth, it certainly decreases the need for dental fillings and saves money.
The placement of sealant requires no anesthetic and is completely painless. If you have any questions regarding the importance of sealants and whether your child could benefit from them, please do not hesitate to call our office for more information.
