A sealant is a white, resin material that bonds to the chewing surface of the back teeth. While placing the sealant, the tooth is kept dry with cotton to promote bonding. Sealants are placed on permanent molars, around the age of 6, and then to premolars and more molars around the age of 12. Sealants are as simple as “painting your fingernails.”
